Golden Group Curriculum

Women 60+ meet every month to speak and work on personal goals and  projects of interest. It was designed so that the women meet once a month and can choose from a menu of discussion topics based on their interest. The inspiration for these topics were drawn from conversation with the group leader and The United Nations Principles of Older Persons: Independence, Care, Participation, Self-Fulfillment and Dignity.

 

Session 1: Program Introduction

  • Introduce intention of the program. Introduce group to each other (members introduce to another person and than come back to group.

(Developing confidence and achieving your wildest dreams)

(Independence, Care, Participation, Self-Fulfillment, Dignity)

 

Session 2:

  • Your Goals and Fulfillment:

We will answer the following questions:

-What is your wildest dream?

-Why is that your wildest dream?

-What can you do now to achieve that dream?

-Lets create a plan of actions to achieve your goals and feel fulfilled.

 

Session 3:

  • You are worthy:

-Why is it important that you feeling worthy of putting yourself first.

-What are your gifts and talents?

-How can you fulfill your potential, using your gifts and talents?

-The difference between selfish and self-loving.

 

Session 4:

  • Your Legacy and Being at Peace With Yourself

-What is a legacy?

-What legacy do you want to leave?

-Introspective thinking and being a source of wisdom

-Giving back to others.

 

Session 5:

  • Your Life Stage: Late adulthood
  • Recognizing the different stages of life.
  • How is your stage different than other stages?
  • How is it the same?
  • Do you accept or resist the stage of life you are in.
  • What can you do different to enjoy the stage of life you are in?

 

 

 

Session 6

  • Assertiveness training; asking for what you want. Communicating clearly.
  • What is assertiveness?
  • How can we be more assertiveness in our lives?
  • Assertive versus complaining
  • What can you do differently now that you have this information

 

 

Session 7

  • Making life easier for yourself: look at your life and how can you make your life easier
  • What is difficult about life?
  • Is there anything I can do to change what is difficult?
  • Sharing strategies and resources to address all levels of personal care.
  • What actions will I take this month with the new information I have gained?

 

Session 8

  • Self Care: Nutrition, exercise, health
  • Do I take care of myself and am I being responsible for my health?
  • Who else takes care of me?
  • Tips and resources for self care in the community
  • Why is it important that I take care of myself as much as possible?

 

Session 9

  • Personal Dignity:
  • What is personal dignity?
  • Why is it important
  • How can you exercise more dignity in your life
  • What can you do differently this more to express more dignity in your life.

 

Session 10

  • Time for personal projects:
  • This is a time to share what personal projects you have been working on.
  • Do you need support from anyone to complete or continue to work on your personal project.
  • Why is this project important for you

 

Session 11

  • Spiritual– when was the first time you thought about God?
  • How is God present in your life?
  • How do you connect to God?
  • Would you like to have a deeper relationship with God?
